get to know Dr. Richard Halpern

Dr. Halpern’s desire to become an Orthodontist began when he was young. He first completed his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at Concordia University in Montreal before moving west to study Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. After spending two years of dental internship at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg, he began a Masters of Science degree from the Medical School at the University of Louisville in Kentucky in Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology. His thesis focused on craniofacial proportions using 3D x-rays (CBCT). After completing his studies in the US, he moved back north to Winnipeg, where he obtained his Orthodontic Specialty from the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Richard Halpern has been creating beautiful smiles for patients of all ages with exceptional orthodontic care. Having most recently been creating beautiful smiles for patients in Alberta at Pure Orthodontics, Dr. Halpern is excited to be back in Manitoba creating self esteem and confidence, one beautiful smile at a time. His treatment outcomes are raved about by patients, and we could not be more thrilled to welcome him to our clinic.

Q&A with Dr. Halpern

Q: Why do you love Orthodontics?

A: Being able to be a part of changing peoples lives through changing their smiles and adding to their self-esteem. That is what makes my work so rewarding.

Q: What excites you about being part of the docbraces network?

A: The support network that works together to provide the highest standards of care. Not only does the network offer Peer to Peer Mentorship, but it allows me to focus on what I love - patient care!

Q: What do you love to do outside of work?

A: I love being outdoors, especially on my bike. I am an avid cyclist.

Q: What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

A: Salted caramel chocolate covered ice cream, Candy Apples coated in Chocolate and M&Ms, chocolate most any way... you name it!

Q: How do you get involved in your local community?

A: As an Orthodontist and as an office, we are a proud supporter of the Smiles4Canada program. Smiles4Canada matches Canadian children in need of treatment with a Certified Orthodontist, such as myself, who provides quality, comprehensive orthodontic treatment at no cost to the patient, other than a small administrative fee to the program. Helping someone improve their smile and self esteem, when their family would not otherwise be able to afford it is truly special.

I am also very excited about the fact that docbraces has partnered with Jack.org, which supports mental health for Canadian youth. We are sponsoring riders for the Jack Ride virtual bike ride to raise funds for Jack.org, and bring awareness to the amazing work that they do every day. Go docbraces smile team!
